Hi all! I wish to run another set of leads off my Eminence LF driver to a single 1/4" plug on the back of my cabinets. Currently, there is the set of leads going to my Altec x-over from the Eminence drivers and the 806-8A HF drivers. Will this harm anything in the x-over, other than the obvious senario whereby some twit plugs two sources into the back of the speaker? I've converted my Altec x-over from push contacts to 1/4". The whole purpose here is to take the cabinets out some day and use them for extra keyboard bass WITHOUT the HF units hooked up. The 811B horn sits on top and would be left at home. The Eminence LF drivers are rated for bass guitar at about 600 watts. They were recommended by the chief electrical tech at Eminence as suitable replacements for my 416-8As. Thanks....Lee

You would have the capacitor in the crossover that is wired in paralell to the woofer in the circuit, this is something you would not want, because it would cut out some of mid and high frequencies. What you could do is use a jack with a cutout like a headphone jack that has a set of contacts to disconect the speaker when the headphones are pluged in. You could wire this jack so when you plug in the feed to the woofer the crossover gets taken out of the circuit.

The switching jacks are a bit problematic- at least use a quality one such as Switchcraft-

Another solution is to wire one side straight and put a toggle switch in to throw the connection one way or the other. The downside there is if you forget and leave it in the wrong position...

Thanks guys! Sort of thought there would be an issue. Hope I've made my question clear. I would solder another set of leads from the LF driver to a 1/4" plug just below the x-over on the back wall of the box. In the end, the LF unit would have two sets of leads: one for the 1/4" "bass plug" and the other to the LF Altec x-over tabs. Does this change your answer? If not, thanks in advance.....Lee

If you look at the crossover schematic, it has a coil in series and a cap across (parallel) with the driver.

The cap will roll of the upper response of the driver- to use full range you have to get th crossover out of circuit VIA switch or the switch portion of a switching jack.
